PACNJ Asthma Friendly School Award Program

Print this page Print this page

There are six requirements to qualify for the PACNJ
Asthma Friendly School Award.  Each step supports
the efforts of New Jersey schools to be in compliance
with New Jersey Laws for asthma management and
good indoor air quality.

The award recognizes a school’s efforts to enhance
the quality of education for students and staff who
face the challenges of asthma.

Six Steps to Success

1.  A Nebulizer is required in each school as mandated by state statute NJSA 18A:40-12.7.

2.  NOW AVAILABLE!!!  PACNJ Faculty In-Service PowerPoint training  Asthma Management in the Classroom: What Teachers Need to Know.  All New!  Our new downloadable PowerPoint training for faculty asthma education, is now available.  It fulfills the requirement mandated by state statute NJSA 18A:40-12.9 requiring annual asthma education for school faculty. Replaces the "ABCs of Asthma are All 'Bout Control" video.

3. NOW AVAILABLE!!! Asthma Basics for School Nurses -  All New!  A completely revised 22 minute asthma management training video for school nurses.  It fulfills the requirement mandated by state statute NJSA 18A:40-12.8. Replaces the "Asthma Management in the School Setting" video kit.

4.
Asthma Treatment Plan: School Nurses Leading the Way Each school nurse is to view the PACNJ On-Line PowerPoint Presentation and take the online quiz.

5.   NJDHSS/PEOSH Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Training for School Nurses and Designated Persons
(PEOSH - Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health Program)

The updated NJ PEOSH Indoor Air Quality Standard N.J.A.C. 12:100-13 now requires public employers to select and train a Designated Person.  NJDHSS/PEOSH provides the Designated Persons training and a certificate of attendance.

PACNJ requires that a school nurse and the IAQ designated person (or someone responsible for indoor air quality in a private school) from the school/district attend this training in order to qualify for the PACNJ award.

PACNJ requires that each school establish an Indoor Air Quality Team in order to qualify for the award
