Objective: Ensure that all care-givers and children will understand and apply the NHLBI Guidelines for managing asthma as educated consumers.
Indicators of success:
There will be a reduction in school absenteeism for children with asthma.
There will be a reduction in emergency room visits for children with asthma.
There will be a reduction in hospital visits for children with asthma.
There will be an improved quality of life for children with asthma.
Desired outcomes:
PSA’s from pharmaceutical advertisements encourage use of asthma action plans.
Child-care absenteeism will be monitored and data available.
Asthma action plans will be on file in the schools for children with asthma.
Emergency Room visits will be monitored and data available.
Current projects:
Develop a PACNJ media message and public relations campaign through funding from the
US EPA grant to reach the public with information about pediatric asthma. Currently we have developed:
A mission statement and logo that conveys we are the pathway to asthma control
A PSA to be used on our educational video and during the October media campaign
A web site for access to New Jersey asthma programs and services

Develop a response packet of materials featuring asthma programs and services of
participating agencies and organizations to send to families who call.
Develop a plan to enable all
patients to adhere to their plan through the parent component of the
asthma action plan.
Develop an identity for PACNJ throughout the state as the “pathway to asthma control” for
everyone seeking information on asthma.
Develop a speaker’s bureau for the PACNJ.
